Operation Shoebox - Storage Solutions

Wicker Boxes 2

Sometimes you're given a tiny space to live in, without much storage space. Your closet barely fits your clothes in there, nevermind everything else. Short of tossing your things out, you need to find a place to stash them.

You don't quite feel compelled to throw money on furniture, because since you're renting, you feel that money should be really spent on something you own. In this temporary apartment, you just want to get by, but not necessarily without aesthetics. So what you look for is threefold: functionality, looks, and price.

Because you want nothing permanent, you pretty much rule out major pieces of furniture. And you want something versatile and easy to transport. Something you won't throw out after the next move, but will be able to use in the years to come.

The baskets above are perfect for this purpose. Not only do they have a cool look, but they also stack on one another and have lids! So you can toss just about anything into them: old magazines, bags, dirty laundry - whatever needs you might have! There are also two smaller baskets that I placed in the bathroom for little odds and ends. And for a price of $50, who can complain? BedBath&Beyond currently carries them - in case you're looking.

Operation Shoebox continues. Little by little, I will find ingenious ways to organize and decorate on a budget and with limited space. My next quest is for under-bed storage - the containers on wheels!
