This cake truly does win hearts and minds. I used to make a gluten-free version using cocoa powder instead of flour for my boyfriend and his roommates. I think the real reason they were all so upset that I moved back to America was they wouldn’t be able to have leftover cake for breakfast anymore!

Ah! I actually did make this cake for my wedding. It is the perfect wedding cake; it freezes beautifully, as Molly can also attest. I paired it with a lemon olive oil cake from Gourmet and a homemade lemon ice cream.

that cakes look great! and your pictures are so pretty too…I am really craving chocolate cake now :). And I’m with you on the wedding planning. If/ when I get married, I have no plans for it except that the food must be provided by a taco truck.

I’m made this cake on countless occasions and am, every time, reminded that cake is only as good as the sum of its (high-quality) ingredients. It’s also delicious with the addition of raspberries. I’m with you on the wedding dreams, too. All I ever thought about was what the food would be (and it’s taking front and center stage at my wedding).

Ah, wonderful! I made this cake for a gluten-free friend last fall, you can sub in a tablespoon of GF flour if you have it or use cocoa powder if you don’t. Mine was a little crumbly, but in such a small amount it didn’t make much difference.

O.M.G. This looks SO delicious. I mean, seriously, I would so rather have this kind of cake than the usual fussy wedding cake – those are gorgeous, but sometimes they taste kind of generic. Now this – would taste just like it looks – ooey, gooey, decadent love!

Oh Sassy, that is my kind of wedding cake! I get hives just thinking about getting married. Even though I am a huge lover of clothes, the mere thought of a wedding dress puts me in a state of panic. I fully hope to elope and come back ready to party with a big fatty cake and open bar.

Unfortunately I cannot bake for my wedding (since I will essentially show up only in time to get a marriage license) but perhaps this will be our anniversary cake, or our finally-back-home cake, or our about-to-get-married cake, or our the-weddings-not-for-fifty-some-days cake…
It looks so utterly delicious.
